Informal training by the local community for the local community.
The idea is that on a semi-regular basis, people from the local digital community volunteer to give up some of their free time to train a small group of their peers in a subject that interests them.
A brief history of SkillSwap
The basic concept behind SkillSwap came from watching members of the BNM mailing list using their time and knowledge to help people solve a wide variety new media related problems.
The idea is that on a semi-regular basis, people from the local new digital community volunteer to give up some of their free time to train a small group of their peers in a subject that interests them.
The setting will be small and informal and the subjects can be anything from hardcore programming topics through to softer business skills. Basically anything you’d be happy talking about that you think would be of interest to the local digital community.
By sharing informal training amongst community members we can cut down on the need for expensive training courses, learn a little about each other’s skills and do a little networking as well.
If you’re interested in doing a talk or helping out in another way please feel free to please email us. SkillSwap is a community effort and its success will be due to people volunteering their time and energy.
